EMS Agency services will be available starting Tuesday July 12, 2011 at the 5th Street location. EMS Agency staff will be available during the move via the REDCOM EMS Duty Officer.
The consolidation of the EMS Agency offices into the Public Health building will result in changes to EMS Agency operations. The largest impact will be due to staffing reductions eliminating EMS Agency full-time clerical support. The 2011/2012 EMS Agency budget will not support the provision of Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. counter service. As a result, the following changes will occur:
- Coastal Valleys EMS Agency (CVEMSA) will not have dedicated reception/secretarial service or walk-in office hours at the 5th Street location. Public Health reception staff on-site will not be able to provide EMS-specific information or advice. Please consult the EMS Agency website for EMS Agency related information.
- CVEMSA will not have a general phone number answered by clerical staff. The EMS Agency has established a voicemail/phone tree to direct callers to the appropriate resource (including the CVEMSA website) for information and assistance.
- EMS Agency staff will be available via telephone and email at their current direct contact numbers and email addresses. Visit our website for that information.
- EMS Agency staff will be available by appointment at the 5th street location. Appointments must be scheduled directly with the individual staff member via telephone or email.
- Certification and accreditation applications will continue to be accepted by mail or courier service.
- Although walk-in applications will no longer be supported, there will be a mechanism to allow for dropping off a complete application. Individuals who present hand delivered applications or correspondence to the front counter at 625 5th Street will be directed to a drop box established for that purpose. Materials left in the box will be collected and processed on the schedule posted on the box. Public Health reception staff will not provide a receipt for material left in the drop box. Public Health reception staff will not be able to provide EMS-specific information or advice to walk-up applicants. Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant. Box placement is in process and will not be available immediately following the move. Individuals wishing to deliver materials are strongly advised to make an appointment or utilize mail delivery service.
The EMS Agency staff regrets any inconvenience caused by these changes in operations, particularly the customer service impact to our walk-in applicants. Staff will work to be as available as possible through telephone, email and scheduled appointments in the new location.

Medical emergencies may occur at time or location and require a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies, personnel and facilities to ensure a rapid response and high standard of care. The Coastal Valleys Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system has been designed to incorporate these agencies and facilities into a dynamic emergency medical care delivery system that is focused on rapid access to emergency locations, patient assessment, stabilization of patients and their transportation.
